Adoptable Dogs

Dog of the week – Sia

Location: Gauteng

3 year old Sia says she longs for her forever family. She has been returned to rescue because she prefers to be an only dog and that is not her fault. Sia is amazing with children and needs a little human or two who she can cuddle with. She is super intelligent, energetic and very friendly with people. She can be an escape artist if the opportunity presents itself, so she will need a secure yard and gates. We would prefer a home with no other dogs or cats.

PS. Sia lost her one eye in a shooting incident, but she is just a normal, happy, loving GSP with a huge personality and loads of character.

Adoption notes

We aim to match dogs in need and potential adopting homes. Your specific preference in dogs might not be available at the time. Please consider one of the available dogs or monitor our Facebook and Website for new dogs becoming available for adoption.

We require all other pets in the adoptive home to be sterilised – special consideration will be given where pets cannot be sterilised based on medical motivation (e.g. age or medical condition).

We might not have any information about most of our dog’s bloodline or breeding.

Please consider the following terms and conditions when applying:

Adoption notes:

  • If you are interested in any of the dogs in the care of GSP Rescue SA, please contact Rolien Prinsloo or Lianie Dalby via GSP Rescue SA  with any questions or to request an adoption application form. You can also complete the adoption form electronically by clicking on the button underneath each dog’s photo.
  • Meet and greets / play dates can be arranged where practical.
  • Completed adoption form and full home checks apply. If you are in the same city / town, a play date with existing dogs would also take place.
  • We will make every effort to arrange / assist for transportation (at cost of new home, if applicable) for re-homing in South Africa.
  • An adoption fee of R1 200 per dog enable us place dogs that are sterilised, micro chipped, vaccinated (including kennel cough), and dewormed. In the instance of pups younger than 12 months, the adoption fee will be R1700.00, which is kept by GSP Rescue SA. This will be contributed toward the sterilisation when the pup is old enough. Strict sterilisation contracts will apply for dogs younger than 12 months. Please see note above for adoption fee increase.

NOTE: We cannot let distance stand in the way of a dog finding a good, loving family and we will consider homes in other provinces. We will assist with transport arrangements as much as we possibly can.

The cost of any flights and/or road transport to the new home will be for the adopting family’s account and does not replace the adoption fee.

The Pairs

Dobby and Kino’s Profiles

Location: Gauteng, but can relocate

We welcome the dynamic duo Dobby and Kino into our GSP Rescue family. This beautiful pair need to find a home together. It is a huge ask we know but 7 year Dobby and 6 year old Kino is a bonded pair. The boys are used to sleeping inside on their own coach. They do not like cats and have not had any formal training. Dobby and Kino are regular blood donors for other furkids in need. They do not like Thunder or fireworks and will need reassurance. They are extremely affectionate and are good with kids. They haven’t had lots of exposure to smaller dogs so careful meet and greets would be advised. They absolutely love swimming so if you have a pool that’s a bonus. If you do have a space in your life for this gorgeous bonded pair please apply. It will really break our hearts to separate them.

The Lasses

Nala’s Profile

Location: Gauteng, but can relocate

Nala is a 1 year old and was abandoned in a kennel. She was in a very poor condition and the kennel that originally took her in did a wonderful job to get her body back to normal and arranged for her to be legally surrendered to GSP Rescue.

Nala (female) and Jagter (male) are siblings and we would STRONGLY prefer two separate homes for them.

Nala is quite small built. She is soft and accepting.

She is in need of training and to be taught in love, what is acceptable behaviour and lots of mental stimulation. She would do well in an active home, with no cats. She seems to be good with other dogs, especially dogs her  own size and energy levels.

She loves people of all shapes and sizes – but please remember that she is high energy and both need to be taught not to jump up.

(Special thanks for Yvonne Soden for the lovely photos!!)

Suzi’s Profile

Location: Gauteng, but can relocate

This precious approx. 5 year old girl, called Suzi. She is currently in a wonderful foster home with other GSPs in Johannesburg – but she needs to join her forever family soon.

Suzi is playful and loving. She is very good with children but if things get a little too busy she politely puts herself on time out.

She will need some guidance on feeling comfortable in a house and on “where to do her business” – but we are convinced that she will be a couch potato soon, if allowed. Suzi does not like fireworks.

Suzi will be a wonderful companion to a loving family and will benefit, like all dogs, from someone that invests in some training with her.

Ps. Sorry, although she was bathed earlier the day that most of the photos were taken, the fun she had with the other dogs caused a bit of dirt on her

Roxy’s Profile

Reserved

Meet 2 year old Roxy, a stunning girl needing a new home. Roxy is fantastic with children and adults. She is a typical young GSP, full of energy, loves to play with other dogs. She travels well in the car.

Roxy doesn’t like cats and thunder. She can be an escape artist when the gate opens and her humans fear for her safety. She is also know to jump the fence, so a property with higher walls would be fine and access control to the gate, or even a double-date system can work.

Chocolate’s Profile

We welcome 18 month old Chocolate into GSP Rescue’s care. Chocolate and her sister was surrendered as they are a formidable double act. Sweet and lovely girls …..together they were double trouble. ABSOLUTELY NO CATS OR SMALL DOGS OR ANY SMALL ANIMALS. Chocolate got into a lot of trouble for her abilities to “ hunt” Although Chocolate and her sister Tanya was surrendered together we feel it is in their best interest to be separated as they “ gang “ up. As long as there is a same size friend ……. meet and greets will be essential to make sure she fits in. There is no known phobias.

Chockie’s Profile

Location: Gauteng

Chockie, 13 year old female.

Dear Chockie or Chocolate is in need of a retirement home (owners are emigrating).

Her current owner writes: “Chockie is a friendly and loving dog. Very protective of me her owner but listens very well if I say: No, leave and sit or lay down.

She loves to be outdoors, but will come into the house or office if it is warm or if she want something to snack on. Then she will put her head on your lap and look straight into your eyes.

She has a good rat and snake catching record. She saved my life when she bit a snake just behind a door were I was about to go out of.

At this stage she is mostly laying in the office with me during the day.

Chockie loves to go for a walk and do well on the leash.
She were never been beaten of kicked in her life, so please she will not understand that kind of behavior if someone want to hurt her.

She loves to put her head on you and ask for attention and love.

She is not aggressive, only barking when someone step into her territory and will stand next to you or between you and someone else and do the smell thing.

She loves children, she grew up with my young son and teenage daughter.

So she does well with other dogs. She is living with two small pinchers and one Jack Russell. She is not aggressive toward other dogs, except with her food. Livestock no problem, we had cows and sheep. But she definitively is not in love with cats.

She do not like gun shots. She not afraid of thunderstorms, but please no fireworks.

Please find people that are living in a big yard or on a plot. That’s all Chockie knows and she needs space to run around where she could still be useful for people and chase after rats. I will rather see her with people that are still active and wants to go for walks every now and then.”

Marley’s Profile

Location: Gauteng

Sweet Marley finds herself homeless again. Through no fault of her own, things did not work out with the family who adopted her and she returned to rescue.

Marley is an 2 year old German Wirehaired Pointer (GWP).

If you want a girl who is active, loving, playful, cuddly and smart, the maybe Marley is your girl. She LOVES treats so much that she will sit for them. She even thinks her dewormer and tick & flea treatment are treats.

Life is an adventure for Marley and she lives in the moment. She will need a family who will take her in and let her share in all their daily and fun activities. She seems to be fine with large well socialised dogs, so meets and greets will be essential. She is amazing with small and big humans.

We will NOT place her in home with smaller dogs, cats, chickens, rabbits or livestock.

The Lads

Jagter’s Profile

Location: Gauteng, but can relocate

Jagter (red collar) is a solid liver GSPs x (90% GSP) ….

He is 1 year old and was abandoned in a kennel. He was in a very poor condition when the kennel originally took him in. They did a wonderful job to get his body back to normal and arranged for him to be legally surrendered to GSP Rescue SA.

Nala (female) and Jagter (male) are siblings and we would STRONGLY prefer two separate homes for them.

Jagter can jump 1,8m fences and would need an extra secure property.

Jagter is in need of training and to be taught in love, what is acceptable behaviour and lots of mental stimulation. He would do well in an active home, with no cats. He seems to be good with other dogs, especially dogs his own size and energy levels.

He loves people of all shapes and sizes – but please remember that they are high energy and both need to be taught not to jump up.

(Special thanks for Yvonne Soden for the lovely photos!!)

Bruno’s Profile

Reserved

Bruno is a lovely 2,5 years old GSP. He is currently in Gauteng area.
Although he first wants to “meet you”, he love people and he is very good with children. He is good with other dogs his size and we think he will be fine with smaller dogs too. He is NOT cat friendly.

Unfortunately he was an outside dog so will need a family that will show him “where to do his business” – but we are confident that he will pick this up quickly.
Bruno slot in well with an active family and will benefit, like all dogs, from someone that invests in some training with him.

(Special thanks for Yvonne Soden for the lovely photos!!)

Leo’s Profile

Reserved

Handsome 4 year old Leo is a very beautiful young man who needs a new home due to his owners immigrating. He is a faithful, loving and high energy bundle of love that thrives on human interaction. He has a brother that is also being surrendered but they need not be rehomed together. Careful introduction to new dogs especially smaller dogs will have to take place. Unfortunately Leo does not know cats and chases them and other smaller animals.. . There is no noise phobias and Leo has been a much loved member of the family and has impeccable ( for a GSP) house manners….. Leo is currently in Gauteng but can travel.

Patches’ Profile

Reserved

Currently in Gauteng, 3 year old Patches, can travel if a suitable home is found. Patches is familiar with cats but we cannot guarantee how he will react to strange felines. Patches is not used to small dogs and prefer the company of same size dogs . Currently him and his partner Dexter are looking for a home…. together would be a bonus but can be separated if need be. Patches tends to be the dominant male and can be jealous if he is not the centre of attention. It is more than this love bug can bear….. Patches will be sterilised before being adopted. Patches is afraid of noises and thunderstorm.

Max’s Profile

Gauteng, but can relocate

Max is a 4,5 year old , super adorable Lab x English Pointer. Max was adopted from us in 2017 but sadly had to be returned due to change in circumstances.
Max is loving and curious boy, prefers children that is a little bigger (+10 y old). He is better with larger breed female dogs and is a danger to cats. He is fully housetrained and knows basic commands. He is an amazing passenger in the car. He will benefit a lot (like all dogs) from some training.
Max needs a family who will love him and in return he will be your loyal and faithful companion forever.

Benji’s Profile

Location: Gauteng, but can relocate

Letter from Benji’s foster humans:
Benji is a fun-loving and very energetic boy, just over 2 years old. We think his “off” / “rest” switch might be a little broken. He has been in our home as a foster since October 2016, but need to find his own forever home soon.
He gets along well with our GSP male and Springer female – and should be fine with other K9’s as long as they can tolerate his boisterousness.
Benji is very inquisitive, enjoys human and K9 company. He plays very soft with kids.
He has put his paw to perfecting gardening so need positive stimulation to keep his eager mind and body busy. He will reward his new humans with loyal companionship if they invest in structured training with him.
The only time he lies still is when he is curled up in the home with his friends surrounding him, but he needs to make sure that our GSP is clean before going to bed, he gets licked from head to toe first.

Benji would need an experienced GSP family who knows and understands the needs of this breed. This, unfortunately, is not negotiable. Benji is not for a first time GSP owner or for the faint of heart.
